Resident's stories

"I Have Peace. Perfect Peace"

What's it really like to live on Rockbridge Residential Caravan Park?

We can tell you it's fabulous (and it is!), but we think the best advocates of residential park home living are our residents themselves.

We've been to meet Kate and Dez and Vera to get their thoughts on residential caravan park living at Rockbridge.

“I simply love it here. It’s a gateway into some of the most beautiful parts of both Wales and England.”
Kate Doubleday moved to Rockbridge just over a year ago after visiting her late sister, who was a resident.
“After my husband passed away, I knew in my heart there was nowhere I’d rather be,” she shares. “Rockbridge is surrounded by stunningly beautiful countryside; there’s everything I need on the High Street of the nearby town, and I have peace. Perfect peace.”

The residential park at Rockbridge is only one mile from Presteigne, the former county town of Radnorshire. Today, it remains a charming and vibrant market town with a good selection of independent shops and services, including a doctor’s surgery, a dentist, a grocer, a deli, a variety of well-rated restaurants, and several welcoming pubs.

Kate loves all the activities going on in the area, from food, literary, and classical festivals to country shows and the marvellous little theatres in nearby Hereford and Ludlow. “I can go pretty much anywhere from here without any hassle, and the rail and bus network is perfectly sufficient to get me wherever I want to go,” she explains. “It’s safe. I can lock up and leave knowing that I’m in a community of people that watch out for each other.”

Rockbridge sits between the Shropshire Hills AONB and the Brecon Beacons National Park, offering residents numerous walking trails and outdoor activities. The local landscape is dotted with historic sites, including Stokesay Castle, Ludlow Castle, and Offa’s Dyke, a 177-mile-long earthwork from the 8th century, which runs right by the park.

While Kate enjoys exploring the local area, she treasures her time at the park. “I love my garden. It’s not massive but it’s very colourful and just adds to the sheer beauty of everything here, including the beautiful River Lugg that flows at the bottom of the park.”

Though Kate moved to Rockbridge in her 70s and has been a resident for just over a year, Dez and Vera have been enjoying the area for 16 years.
“We love the peace, the tranquillity, the silence and the amazing views,” Vera says.
“Presteigne’s a great place and the people are of the same inclination as us. We have a lovely garden and beautiful countryside all around – what more could we wish for?”

Roger Thomas moved to his brand new Rockbridge residential park home during summer 2024. Born in Clun, he knew the area well, despite living on the Isle of Man since 1998. After his wife sadly died, he knew he wanted to be back in the countryside.

"I wanted a countryside environment to live in, giving me room and freedom to move around," says Roger. "Rockbridge Park has given me that. Situated in a place that I have known and loved all my life and only 20 mins away from my daughter and other family members in and around Aymestrey.

"The Rockbridge residential community has been so warm and welcoming to me, with the Residents Association providing me with the 'inside' information as to what goes on where.

"I definitely commend the community spirit and the strength of the 'Bush Telegraph' which seemed to know I’d arrived almost before I did!!"
